Hardwood Flooring in Santa Barbara

Hardwood is the floor people fall in love with, and it's the floor we've built our name on. Since 1981, our family-owned store has helped homeowners, builders and designers across the South Coast find the right wood floor, then installed it with the care it deserves. Come into our showroom on De La Vina Street and you'll find hundreds of hardwood options to see and touch in person, in a range of species, textures, grades and finishes.

Hardwood Floors to Suit Every Style

Every home is different, so we start with how you want the room to feel. Here's how we usually guide people:

  • Transitional: wide 7.5” to 9” boards with a light to medium amount of character, usually in lighter natural tones, whites or grays. This look works in modern or rustic rooms, it’s by far the most popular choice today, and we have hundreds of options.

  • Contemporary: medium-wide 5” to 7.5” boards in white, light gray or a lighter natural color, smooth or very lightly wire-brushed. A select to light rustic grade keeps it clean, without much plank-to-plank variation. Think clean and calm.

  • Traditional: narrower 3” to 5” boards in a medium to light color, typically Red or White Oak in a Select & Better grade. Plain sawn is the classic look, and upgrading to rift & quartered adds authenticity, class and style.

  • Rustic or Country: wide 7.5” to 10” boards with plenty of character, mixing lighter and darker boards with knots and natural marks. Light Rustic to Rustic White Oak, Hickory, Pecan, Walnut and Country Maple all give the natural effect this style calls for.

  • Heavily trafficked rooms: wide-plank White Oak with lots of grain and character helps hide wear. Go with a low sheen, since darker, shinier floors show more damage, and the more distressed the floor is from the start, the harder it is to damage.

Not sure where you land? That's what we're here for. Bring photos, paint chips or a cabinet sample and we'll pull boards that work together. Read more in our guide, How Do I Choose a Hardwood Floor?

Engineered Wood or Solid Hardwood?

We sell and install both, and it's one of the first questions we hear. Our honest answer is that solid isn't automatically better. Engineered hardwood with a thick wear layer can be refinished, its factory finish is more durable and consistent than a site-applied one, and it's more stable as the seasons change. It can also go where solid can't, like over a concrete slab or below grade. It's what we put in our own homes. The full answer is in Is Solid Wood Better Than Engineered?

Custom, One-of-a-Kind Hardwood Floors

Can't find exactly what you're picturing? We also specialize in custom hardwood flooring made to your preferences, just for you. Herringbone, chevron and wide-plank European oak are some of the floors we've made and installed around town. Custom floors take longer to produce, typically at least 4 weeks and up to about 12, so it's worth starting the conversation early.

Living With Hardwood: Pets and Care

Yes, you can have beautiful hardwood floors with a dog or cat. Keep claws trimmed, clean up accidents right away and put a mat under food and water bowls. Pet damage isn't covered by manufacturer warranties, but most of the floors we sample hold up well to pets. See Hardwood Floors With Pets and our Flooring Care & Maintenance tips.
